Operation Backpack
Our support last year made a huge difference to the needy children at Schertz Elementary, so we are continuing this project during the 2012-2013 school year. Some of the children get meals at school, but wouldn’t eat over the weekends without these backpacks filled with nourishing, kid-friendly food. There is a sign up sheet in the Narthex. (No glass jars, please.) You can sponsor a child for the school year in many ways:

1 full child = filling a backpack every week

1/2 a child = filling a backpack every 2 weeks

1/4 a child = filling a backpack every 4 weeks

TLC For Our Troops
Letters from Our Troops:

“Thank you SO much for your box of goodies!” — Beryl O’Connor

“Thanks very much to you and your congregation for the care packages (2!) sent my way. It was a terrific mix of food and practical things that really come in handy. It means a lot to know that half a world away, people think enough of you to care about your well-being and to send gifts to brighten your outlook." — Eric Snyder

“That they would take time out of their busy schedule truly is humbling. To collect the snacks and accompanying care products and then package and mail to us — that is so kind!” — Dennis Kruse

"I received a VERY nice box of the best mix of items. It was a pleasant surprise and worked out very nicely. We had a waiting area full of guys who just came in from all areas of the country, getting told that because of the ash cloud in Europe (from the volcano in Iceland), they may be staying with us for a while. I passed the box around. There were a lot of tired smiles and thanks. It has to be very tiring for them. They are sick, worried, hurt and now we tell them they can't travel. Thanks again for the morale lift!" -Johnnie Gandolfo
